Triumph Healthcare to Acquire Philadelphia's St. Agnes Long Term Care Hospital
(Houston, Texas/September 15, 2009) Triumph HealthCare, the nation’s third largest provider of long term acute care (LTAC), today announced they will acquire St Agnes Long Term Care Hospital from Mercy Health System. The 58 bed LTAC hospital is located at 1930 South Broad Street in the former St. Agnes Medical Center in South Philadelphia. The deal, expected to close by mid December, will increase Triumph’s hospital count to twenty-one.
“This will expand Triumph’s Pennsylvania presence by becoming our second location in the state. We currently have a hospital in Easton,” stated Charles Allen, CEO for Triumph HealthCare. Allen added, “While evaluating possible acquisitions, St. Agnes’ similarly aligned commitment to quality in healthcare made this hospital stand out. We anticipate a very smooth transition.”
“Triumph Healthcare is a long term acute care market leader that shares Mercy’s commitment to providing safe, high quality care,” said H. Ray Welch, Jr., President and CEO of Mercy Health System. The signing of a long term lease at the current St Agnes location and potentially retaining existing staff are additional ways in which Triumph has demonstrated a commitment to the communities in which we serve.”
St. Agnes Long Term Care Hospital, which has provided long term acute care hospital services in South Philadelphia for five years, will remain as a tenant at the Broad Street location. Future plans for the new Triumph Hospital at St. Agnes call for the creation of a 10 bed licensed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and an expansion of onsite procedures. The expanded services will allow Triumph to more fully meet the needs of patients requiring LTAC hospitalization.
Allen explained, “A LTAC hospital has an average length of stay of more than 25 days compared with the five- to seven-day length of stays in general hospitals. Triumph’s hospitals specialize in providing services to medically-complex patients for whom the general acute care hospital is no longer the most appropriate or cost-effective setting.” Triumph will work closely with area hospitals to ensure that patients requiring extended hospitalizations receive the highest quality of care.
Triumph will begin immediate interviews and job fairs to discuss employment opportunities with St. Agnes Long Term Care Hospital employees. Triumph HealthCare currently operates twenty LTACs in seven states.
